Stop Cigarette Smoking: Where do I Begin?

How do you quit a hobby that lasted a lifetime?

Smoking a pack of cigarette a day costs you money. It might sound good if you have spent this money on something more profitable. But you are not. You spent some money, trying to slowly kill yourself- unconsciously.

There are millions of smokers around the world that sip cigarettes each day. What most people do realize is that quitting it becomes harder, especially if it has become a long habit. The longer you commit to the habit, the harder you get out of it. Fortunately, some people get to manage to quit smoking, but there are some who really does not get the benefit of stopping it.

Now, do not spend your whole life trying to figure out how, when you actually don’t know where to start. Always remind yourself that you are to quit and the absence of the smell of your used cigarette becomes forever. Here are some tips for you to get started:

  • Identify that this is a serious problem and this should stop. Quitters who became successful in quitting their habits tend to remind their selves that smoking leads to a serious disease such as lung cancer and cardiovascular diseases- mostly fatal. Never tell yourself that there is still tomorrow for you to do it. Rather, say its ‘today’ that I’m quitting!
  • Resist or otherwise remove all the temptations. Giving in to temptations is the main course why many smokers failed to live a healthy living. Learn to say NO before you give yourself a chance say “I’ll quit later”. Say no if someone offers you a single cigarette then divert yourself into a more indulging topic of talking and chatting. Use your mouth on other functions, not for smoking. Do something with your cravings. For over the years, stop smoking therapy helps too.
  • Ask for help. There are many organizations and websites that are willing to offer some help in reducing the people who smoke their lungs out. Ask your family members and friends to help you get out of the misery that smoking gives you. Try to listen to them and feel free to express your feelings when craving begins. Believe me; a strong support system around you gives you enough courage to do what is right for yourself.

You may feel agitated, depressed and become uneasy at times but worry not because these are just signs of nicotine withdrawal. These are just simple tasks you have to learn initially but these tasks may help you to leave smoking behind.

You may find some more helps through this article but the best help that you can get is to allow yourself to change for the better, learn to adopt the withdrawal of a habit and start thinking of a healthier you.
